This was my first college presentation. It was for a class called Storytelling in the Sciences, which is my favorite class this quarter. The point of the class is to teach us how to use storytelling strategies to communicate scientific ideas. The idea is that if the presentation is engaging, then people will be more likely to listen to the science as well. Considering our global challenges topic this year, I think this class is preparing me for being able to communicate important information in an interesting and easily understandable way.
I chose to do my first presentation on the benefits of bilingualism in the terms of cognitive decline. I framed it around the story of a brain using bilingualism as a sword to fight again cognitive decline and I got Ruby to draw moments from the story for me. Using a story like this was definitely successful in making my audience listen to me, but also in making me able to understand the science myself so that I could better communicate the ideas.
