This was my first quarter of college in person. It was quite the welcome difference from last year. I started the year with a small artistic endeavor where I learned a lot about some pretty advanced technology. This was also the first quarter of apartment living. It was everything I wanted and so much better than the dorms last year. I've been enjoying my personal space (and sleeping better) and doing a lot of cooking both for myself and my roommates. I've spent a lot of time with friends this quarter. We've done a lot more exploring of Seattle and our apartment has become the social center of our group.
This quarter I also joined the UW Climbing Team. It's been absolutely wonderful. I've met so many incredible people and made great friends. The practices are such a great environment and seeing the others climb has really inspired me to work to improve my own climbing. My favorite thing from this quarter is our end of the quarter tradition. After the last practice we go as a team and jump in the lake. It was so cold but just the best.
Academically, my linguistics classes were amazing. The introduction to phonetics and syntax was exactly the type of linguistics I'd been interested in learning. Theatre History left a little to be desired but I have high hopes for the final course in the series. Transitioning back out of online was definitely good for my focus. However, the phonetics class was hybrid so the online lectures were still a little challenging.
Next quarter I'm going to be designing the set for the Undergraduate Theatre Society's spring production. I'm so excited to finally be designing my first in person set. I am also little nervous. It will definitely be a challenge but one that I'm looking forward to.
